"I've seen the river come up higher than this before," James Brockmond a Danville resident said.

Brockmond said the water, at one time, was so high the cars at Woodall had to be moved. Danville Assistant Fire Chief Steve Dismantle said they are already ahead of the storm.

Crews were installing flood pumps on River and Water streets, which are known to flood. Dishman also said swift water rescue crews were on standby, just in case people needed assistance if flooding happens.

He also said public works crews were on standby and bringing in additional help from across the state to assist with power outages and help clean up debris.

"First and foremost, we want people to be safe. We would like them to prepare themselves, have food and water stocked over the weekend so they don't have to get out," Dishman said.

Dishman said the last time the water level rose anywhere near this high was about 2 decades ago, when Hurricane Fran impacted the area. He said the water was nearly 30 feet high.
