Mudslide closes part of Route 8 in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - There are many flooded roadways around the county, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say a mudslide has closed the southbound lane along Route 8 in the area above Smith Creek Road.

At 8:30 a.m. water was high at Nolley Road at Union Valley Road, Walton Road. The 2700 block of Meadow Creek is closed, and Piney Woods Road to Childress Road is closed. The sheriff's office said the roadway at Radford Road and Rock Road was shut down at 9 a.m. due to heavy flooding.

Also, a tree was blocking one lane of Ellett Road 1/4 mile outside of Christiansburg.

At 9:15 a.m. deputies reported a mudslide was blocking the roadway in the area of the low water bridge on Walton Road.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is also reporting a mudslide on High Rock Hill Road in Pilot about 3/4 mile from the Post Office. Water is expected to rise substantially in the low lying areas of Shawsville and Ellison over the next few hours.

Police are asking to please use extreme caution when traveling on the roadways.
