PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A sheriff's deputy was shot at in his patrol vehicle as he was leaving a home where he was trying to serve a protective order.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Truman Moore went to the residence on Rocksprings Road in Ringgold September 25 around 1:30 a.m. to served the preliminary protective order related to a domestic assault complaint. The deputy left the residence after no one came to the door.

As Deputy Moore drove away, he heard gunfire and what sounded like a bullet hitting his vehicle. The deputy said he took defensive action, getting out of the car, where he saw a bullet hit the back passenger door.

Law enforcement from the Sheriff's Office, the Virginia State Police and the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth Attorney responded to the shots fired call, and resources from the Virginia State Police Aviation Unit were called upon and the area around the residence was secured.

Officers found 67-year-old Ronald Edward Clark, Sr., inside the residence from where Deputy Moore was serving the protective order. Clark was arrested and charged with several crimes, including first-degree attempted murder, in connection to the shooting.

Clark was held at the Pittsylvania County jail under no bond. He appeared in Pittsylvania County General District Court Friday afternoon.
