Group asks Virginia Gov. McAuliffe to delay Prieto's execution

(WSLS 10) - An advocate group for people with intellectual disabilities wants Governor McAuliffe to delay the October 1 execution of a man convicted of killing a young Virginia couple.

The group called The Arc of Virginia says allowing the execution of Alfredo Prieto would be unjustified scientifically.

His lawyers want him transferred to California so they can assess his intelligence.

Prieto is on death row for the 1988 shooting deaths of two George Washington University students. He was sentenced five years ago.

He's also charged with raping and killing a 15-year-old in a separate case.
