ROANOKE (WSLS 10) -  You have a chance to talk about public schools Tuesday night at the 2nd Annual Town Hall on Education. There will be updates on issues discussed last year, time to discuss current matters affecting our public schools like the budget and an opportunity to brainstorm ideas and solutions for improvement. A light dinner will be served. It starts at 5:30 p.m. at Lucy Addison Middle School in Roanoke. Delegate Sam Rasoul is serving as moderator.

The Town of Christiansburg has proclaimed October as Help Save the Next Girl month. At Tuesday's meeting the resolution will be presented to Dan and Gil Harrington. The couple created the organization in memory of their daughter, Morgan. She was a Virginia Tech student who was abducted and killed after a concert in Charlottesville. The Christiansburg High School chapter of Help Save The Next Girl will be hosting a reception from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and fellowship.

Pittsylvania County is talking about school safety Tuesday night. The event focuses on lessons learned and will feature University of Virginia Professor Dewey Cornell who was recently honored for his work in gun violence prevention by Sandy Hook Promise, a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Cornell directs the Youth Violence Project and is recognized as a leading expert in preventing violence in schools. The event will be held at the Olde Dominion Agriculture Foundation north of Chatham, Virginia from 6-8 p.m. For more information, call 434-489-1179.
