Help Save the Next Girl honored in Christiansburg

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - On Tuesday, the town of Christiansburg proclaimed October "Help Save the Next Girl" month.

Help Save the Next Girl (HSTNG) is a national non-profit organization. It was formed in honor of Morgan Dana Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who was abducted and murdered in 2009. Morgan' s parents, Dan and Gil Harrington, have used their pain and grief to help others. Through HSTNG, the Harrington's help spread information and promote personal safety.

Since the organization started, HSTNG chapters have grown nationwide to included collegiate chapters at Virginia Tech, Radford University, University of Michigan, University of Maryland and other colleges and universities. In addition, there are high school and middle school chapters across Virginia.

The Christiansburg High School chapter of HSTNG held a reception prior to the Christiansburg town council regularly scheduled l meeting.

The town will hang banners in recognition of "Help Save the Next Girl" month, and will have an information booth at the Police Department fall festival on October 17th.
