CHARLOTTESVILLE (WSLS 10) - In 2009, the last year of the Al Groh era, Virginia lost to FCS foe William & Mary. Mike London was hired the following year. If he learned anything from his predecessor it's not to overlook any team.

After an 0-2 start, with losses to top 10 ranked UCLA and Notre Dame, the Cavaliers knew the game Saturday was a must win. Quarterback Matt Johns completed 17 of 23 passes for 263 yards.  He also got some help from teammate Maurice Canady who returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown in the 'Hoos 35-29 victory over the Tribe.

"We went down to the wire and we won so it's just a matter of building off our experience and just know how it feels to finish a game," said Johns.

Canady added, "A win is a win, it wasn't the prettiest but we haven't had one around here in a few weeks, well more than a few weeks, but a win is a win, you can't be too mad."

The Cavaliers play at home Friday against Boise State.
