(WSLS 10) - The Roanoke Regional Chamber and Roanoke Regional Small Business Development Center hands out Small Business Awards Thursday night. The groups will recognize small companies in many different categories as well as advocate and business veteran of the year. The ceremony starts at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Roanoke.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall remains at the Salem VA Medical Center in Salem Thursday. A daily ceremony takes place tonight at 6 p.m. with Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets serving as Color Guard. The wall is a replica of the one in our nation's capital, having the names of nearly 54,000 people who sacrificed their lives in the war including about 100 from the Roanoke region.

The U.S. Marine Band performs Thursday night at Virginia Tech. The 7:30 p.m. concert at the Moss Arts Center features a variety of music including "Stars and Stripes Forever" by former band director John Philip Sousa. Before the concert, Virginia Tech Marching Virginians and Highty-Tighties will perform on the lawn starting at 6:30.

Members of the Virginia Tech community and the town of Blacksburg will come together Thursday night to talk about the market for new downtown housing. It's part of the Town/Gown Program that brings everyone together to talk about quality of life issues and neighborhood stability with a goal of blending the town and university communities. Tonight's meeting is at 6 p.m. at Ambler Johnson Hall on the Tech campus.

The Federal Open Market Committee concludes it's two day meeting Thursday. This afternoon the Fed will issue its decision on interest rates. The interest rate decision comes a day after the Labor Department said consumer price dropped 0.1 percent in August, mainly because of declining oil prices.
