BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) – A new program called Campus Kitchen will launch at Virginia Tech later this month. The program will be run by students and the organization VT Engage.
According to Feeding America Southwest Virginia, one in eight Virginians struggle with food insecurity.

This program will provide meals to some in need. Volunteers will collect excess food from campus dining halls and repackage it into nutritious meals. The meals will then be delivered to the hungry once a week.
Campus Kitchen will launch at Virginia Tech thanks to a $5,000 grant. Virginia Tech will be the 48th institution to join the national Campus Kitchens Network.
Organizers plan to start off small, serving about 50 people that are struggling with hunger in the New River Valley.
The group will focus on first serving seniors in need.
Organizers plan to expand in the coming years, serving more as the number of volunteers grows.
Campus Kitchen will celebrate its grand opening on September 30. The location of the kitchen will be announced on the group's Facebook Page later this month.
