BLACKSBURG  (WSLS 10) – Virginia Tech will send out its first campus wide survey on Monday that focuses on sexual assault.

All students living in Blacksburg will receive the electronic survey. It contains more than 150 questions and will take students approximately 45 minutes to complete.

The survey asks questions about the level of awareness about support on campus and if students have experienced sexual violence.

Leaders plan to use the local data that will be collected to create more effective prevention and response efforts.

Violence prevention specialists at Virginia Tech said they plan to create new awareness campaigns, as well as use new methods to involve more men in the conversation about sexual violence.

The new survey was created as national and state leaders are pushing for colleges to take action.

Virginia Tech hopes other universities around the country will eventually implement similar techniques.
