SALEM (WSLS 10) - Salem's 9/11 memorial arrived at its new location Wednesday after getting a tune-up.

The steel beam structure was removed from the Old Virginia Brick site in August, and moved into the city's workshop for a mini-makeover.

The 14,000 pound memorial arrived at its final destination in front of the Salem fire station Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The memorial was temporarily up for sale after its previous site was shut down, but the community rallied to keep it in Salem.

Local leaders chose the spot after evaluating several others, saying it not only remembers the first-responders who lost their lives September 11, but also honors the men and women who currently put their lives on the line every day.

The newly placed 9/11 memorial was dedicated at 11 a.m. Friday morning in front of the Salem Fire & EMS Department.
