PULASKI (WSLS 10) - The town of Pulaski received a $1,000,000 grant to fix the infrastructure and homes in the Kersey Bottom neighborhood.

James Steel has lived in the area all his life. He said he wants to prevent flooding in his neighborhood.

"There's three homes below us right here that are vulnerable as can be," Steel said.

Steel has a letter from workers at the State Department of Conservation and Recreation, confirming Peak Creek, which encompasses the neighborhood, overflows when there's heavy rainfall.

In order to get the problem fixed, the state agency said the developer who built the homes would have to address the issue. The only problem - one knows who the developer is. So state leaders said the burden to fix the flooding problem falls back on the town.

Town leaders said they are working to address the need. They said Kersey Bottom is part of the 100-year flood plan, which is used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to figure out where the problems are.

Leaders said they bought some homes highly prone to flooding with FEMA money and want to plan a meeting with state leaders to figure out the next step.
