The university's student-run newspaper, The Daily Gamecock, received a letter from the Vice President of Conduct for the Interfraternity Council informing the following fraternities of their suspensions.

  • Alpha Epsilon Pi
  • Alpha Tau Omega
  • Chi Psi
  • Delta Kappa Epsilon
  • Kappa Alpha Order
  • Lambda Chi Alpha
  • Phi Gamma Delta
  • Phi Kappa Sigma
  • Phi Sigma Kappa
  • Sigma Alpha Epsilon
  • Sigma Chi
  • Theta Chi
  • Tau Kappa Epsilon

The letter states numerous fraternity chapters violated alcohol and risk management policies during the weeks leading up to formal recruitment.

According to university spokesman Wes Hickman, students participating in fraternity recruitment events noticed alcohol and reported it to the Interfraternity Council. Hickman added that this is an example of students following the University's "Stand Up Carolina" initiative where they are encouraged to report problems when they encounter them.

There are a total of 19 fraternities at USC and bid day is Sept. 7. Recruitment for fraternities began at 5 p.m. on Monday.
