The surge in enrollment also includes a record 7,700 students living on campus. Nearly every student housing facility is at capacity.

Students said Monday, this fall semester is one of the most exciting in the school's history.

"I'm really excited the community is fantastic here at Liberty. And I'm really excited to get back to classes. We just got a new school of music building that I'm getting ready to go to. It supposed to be state of the art, so I'm really excited about that," returning student Matthew Ricker said.

As Liberty continues its $500 million campus rebuilding, the university expects to house 16,000 students by 2020.
