ALTAVISTA (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - Coach Mike Scharnus's Altavista Colonels are a staggering 29-1 over the past two seasons including those back-to-back Group 1A state titles.  Their last loss was to Gretna by a single point - all the way back in October of 2013.

Altavista graduated a talented group of seniors including current UVA safety Juan Thornhill, and Coach Scharnus understands that 2015 will be a different road than the last two.

"I think the keyword that I've been trying been given to the kids this year is patience-for us to be patient with how we do things on offense and defense and special teams and understand that things are not going to come as quick for us as it did last year and just keep on working hard to improve," explains the veteran coach.

"It motivate you completely--a three-peat. That's a dream we are definitely capable of it. We just have to continue what we've been doing the last two years every team wants to beat us--we are the team to beat right now. We're on a winning streak and everyone want to knock us off," says Altavista senior wide receiver Walker Allen.

The defending state champion Colonels open at Central High out of Victoria, Va. on August 28.
