I-81 lane and ramp closures scheduled in the Shenandoah Valley

STAUNTON (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled lane and ramp closures along Interstate-81 between mile markers 174 and 311 during the week of August 17-21.

These closures will take place during overnight hours as crews perform maintenance and construction work in several locations. All work is weather permitting.

Rockbridge County, mile marker 174 to 205, northbound and southbound – Crews will be patching potholes as needed on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Left or right lane closures are possible. Motorists should be alert for mobile work zones.

Shenandoah County, Exits 264 and 269, northbound – Ramp closures for milling and paving, with detours posted to guide drivers to next available interchange.

  • Exit 264 (New Market/Timberville/Luray): Northbound on-ramp from Route 211 will be closed between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Exit 269 (Shenandoah Caverns/Mount Jackson): Northbound off-ramp to Route 730 will be closed between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday. Northbound on-ramp from Route 730 will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday.

Shenandoah County, mile marker 273 to 275, northbound – Left lane closed during soil testing work from 8 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday. Work zone is near the overpass for Exit 273 (Mount Jackson/Basye).

Frederick County, mile marker 310 to 311, northbound and southbound – Left lanes closed for excavation work in the median, as part of the I-81 Exit 310 interchange modification project. Closures run Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, and Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. The right and left shoulders are closed 24/7 in this area.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
