LYNCHBURG (WSLS) - Lynchburg police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday evening. Officers responded to Millwoods Apartments around 5:18pm in reference to a report of a domestic related malicious wounding. Upon arrival, police found a female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was identified as 23 year old Ashley Mayhew of Lynchburg. Mayhew was transported to the Lynchburg General Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries, which are considered non-life threatening.
Police said they identified the suspect as 22 year old Tyler Scott Childress of Lynchburg. Childress fled the scene on foot and was located a short time later while he was continuing to flee the area. When Officers located Childress, he removed a firearm from his waistband but did not use it in a threatening manner toward the Officer. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Childress has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
This incident remains under investigation by the Lynchburg Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
