NBC29 – ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) - Lockers used to be the place where students stashed their stuff, hung up posters and checked their hair, but schools now say that trend is going to the wayside.
Hundreds of lockers are being torn out at Albemarle High School. Lockers are losing and technology is taking over.

The school's principal says charging laptops is now more important than having a spot to keep books. "They're putting in the benches, there will be outlets on both sides and in most areas there will be a white board so kids can spill right out into the classroom, they can sit out here and work quietly on a bench, they can plug in too if they need to because they'll have their laptop," says Principal Jay Thomas.
Albemarle County says this trend holds true at most high schools, yet many middle school students are still using their lockers.
School at Albemarle High School starts August 19. The construction will be completed by the time that first homeroom bell rings.
