POWHATAN (AP) - Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by a Powhatan County sheriff's deputy.
State police tell media outlets that officers responding to a domestic violence call on Monday night encountered 71-year-old Franklin M. Short, who had a gun. The deputy subsequently shot Short.

Short died at the scene. The officers weren't injured.
State police will give the investigation's findings to the Powhatan County commoBnwealth's attorney for review.
