This comes after an especially trying year in Charlottesville with the disappearance and murder of UVA student Hannah Graham, HSNTG is sharing its message of preventing violence.

The nonprofit set up a stand Saturday, and members wore pins in honor of Graham.

Volunteers shared tips about the buddy system and safety in numbers, knowing when to ask for help, and checking on your friends if you haven't heard from them.

UVA President, Teresa Sullivan was at the fair and says these kind of tips apply to everyone.

HSTNG was active in the search for UVA student Hannah Graham last fall. "I think Help Save the Next Girl has been important because they've kept the issue alive, because they don't forget about people who are missing, and because they stress prevention," says Sullivan.

Sullivan says the university is expanding its mandatory safety training this year to students living outside the first year dorms. "What's different now is that we're also stressing it for students who live in apartments or live in houses but aren't necessarily in the residence halls where you've got an RA and University programming."
