ROANOKE (WSLS 10) -  The Roanoke River Greenway is only one section away from being complete.

Roanoke City council Monday discussed the next actions in the process to build the last section. The money for the project has been secured, mostly from grants. City leaders have one year to gain all land easements, or permission to use the land on which the greenway will be built. Council member Ray Ferris says that will be the focus for the next year. The deadline to use the money is June, 2016.

"If we don't have the requests or proposals in place for next June, then the problem is going to be that we are going to lose that money because they have to be committed or else the money goes elsewhere," Ferris said.

By "elsewhere" he means Roanoke City will lose the money.

The entire 11-mile greenway project is scheduled to be complete in 2017.
