FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - In what humane society members are calling nothing short of a 'miracle' - a little puppy was brought back from the dead Thursday after it was found by a resident in a dumpster.

According to the Franklin County Humane Society, the man found the puppy in Glade Hill and brought him straight to the shelter.

The man told employees at the shelter the puppy was lying in the dumpster, thrown away "like a piece of trash".

When the humane society obtained the puppy they said the animal looked lifeless and was cold. The puppy was taken to the clinic where his temperature read at 90 degrees.

The puppy was rushed to the The Pet Clinic of Rocky Mount. Humane society members say his temperature was taken again, IVs were started, warm towels were placed on him, his blood was taken, and a fecal was done.

It was then decided that the puppy needed a blood transfusion. Thumper, who employees say is an angel and has saved many lives, was disturbed from her nap on the couch upstairs and donated blood.

"And it was like almost at once, his eyes opened and he was alive again. We cannot describe this feeling, it really did our hearts good. Forty-five minutes before we were watching a puppy die slowly. Then we watched him gobble food!" said the Franklin County Humane Society on their Facebook page.

The humane society has named the little miracle Taurean. They say he's still recovering and getting a little spoiled. If you would like to donate to his care, please click here. If you are interested in adopting please click here!
