Suspect in Danville hit-and-run turns himself in to police

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The man Danville police believed to have hit two people with his vehicle before fleeing the scene turned himself in Thursday afternoon.

Police said they believed Demetrius Allen Staten, 24, of Danville hit two pedestrians and a parked vehicle wile driving a 1995 tan/gold Nissan Maxima. It happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29  in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of Piney Forest Road. The car was found abandoned on Brightwell Drive near the intersection of Hampton Drive.

The two victims, a 33-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, were treated at Danville Regional Medical Center for head injuries. Police said the woman was in stable condition after being flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Stanten faces two counts of hit and run (involving injury) and one count of hit and run, unattended property. He was being held under no bond at the Danville City Jail.

The investigation is continuing.
