BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The funeral for a 17-year-old who drowned Sunday while swimming in Smith Mountain Lake will be held on Thursday.
The funeral for Chase Mullins will be held on Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 am at Palestine Baptist Church, located at 9244 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway in Huddleston. Interment will follow in Palestine Church Cemetery.

Mullins was a student at Staunton River High School.
Bedford County sheriff's deputies were told the teenager dove off a dock into the lake Sunday, but never resurfaced.
The incident is being called a tragic accident.

Beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin & friend, Chase Nathaniel Mullins, 17 of Huddleston, VA went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2015 following a tragic accident. He was born on Monday, September 22, 1997 in Roanoke, a son of Jamie Scott Mullins and Camilla Dellis Mullins of Huddleston who survives. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Judy Burnette Dellis.
Chase was a rising senior at Staunton River High School, where he participated in football and lettered in basketball. He always had a smile on his face, a joke on his lips and was ready to try anything. Chase was an avid hunter, fisherman and natural born athlete.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Brooke M. Mullins & Lilly Mae Mullins both of Huddleston; his maternal grandparents, Donald Hoyt & Linda Dellis of Huddleston; his paternal grandparents, Larry & Barbara Mullins of Moneta; his paternal great grandmother, Jean Mullins Jordan of Moneta; uncles, Chad Mullins & wife, Susan, Daniel Dellis & wife, Tori; aunts, April Barns, Crystal Carter & husband, Greg; step-aunts and uncles, Sarah Powers, Rebekah & Ryan Browning, Andrew & Ann Powers, David Powers, as well as numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at Palestine Baptist Church, 9244 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA with Dr. Kevin King & Brandon Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Palestine Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 PM at Palestine Baptist Church.
