Veterans honor Radford University Staff for support

RADFORD (WSLS 10) One worker at Radford University is being honored for her work to help student veterans.

Tracey Mattson was awarded the "Department of Defense Patriot" award because she created the university's military resource center.

It's a place where veterans can find get help with paperwork for financial aid.

The center also allows veterans to share war time stories with each other.

Mattson says it's a honor student veterans submitted her for the award.

"I'm not really sure that I deserve the recognition I think these guys really need to have the accolades, and it's up to us to give these folks the benefits they deserve to give them the honor they are due," Tracey Mattson, the coordinator for the Military Resource Center said.

Mattson hopes Radford University will become the number one school in the commonwealth for support for military veterans.
