ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A Roanoke group helping city kids experience life outdoors is expanding its reach.

Roanoke Role Modelz has now started reaching out to young girls with an initiative called GLOW, which stands for Girls Leading Our World. On a recent weekend, leaders Grover and Aerreall Price along with female volunteers took 13 teenage girls camping and fishing at Claytor Lake.

"I had about 30 kids who wanted to go this time, but the budget just wouldn't allow us to do it," Grover explained.

"For me it was an experience seeing the girls out there interacting and they really came alive, when they did it was unbelievable," Aerreall said.

Not only do the girls spend time connecting with the outdoors, but they also heard from a guest speaker about the importance of thinking big and dreaming big.
