A WSLS 10 investigation into the Salem VA Medical Center shows more than $1.7 million worth of equipment reported was lost in the last five years. WSLS 10's Jenna Zibton breaks down what she found Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Here's a preview:
"I've been looking into hundreds of pages of documents and talking to VA employees for the last eight months. Documents show more than $1.7 million of equipment reported missing over the last five years. The Salem VA Medical Center has 22,000 pieces of equipment they track every year across multiple buildings on the 225-acre property. More than 1,100 items have been reported missing - about 200 ever found. Big ticket items reported missing, like a more than $75,000 portable ultra sound unit. Nearly 1,000 items worth more than $1.3 million written off the books." ~WSLS 10 Anchor Jenna Zibton

The Salem VAMC's Chief Logistics Officer, James Kelly, spoke with Zibton for this report.
"We continue to look for that equipment. It is always on our radar."
A VA employee agreed to speak with Zibton anonymously. The employee feared retaliation or job loss. He said no one is being held accountable.
"Sometimes there's a priority to look for it and sometimes there's not a priority to look for it."
So where is the equipment? Tune in Tuesday to WSLS 10 News at 6 p.m. to see what Jenna Zibton found out.
