UPDATED: God's Pit Crew, WSLS 10, and Spirit FM team up for Blessing Bucket drive

DANVILLE - Volunteers are needed for the God's Pit Crew, WSLS 10 and Spirit FM Blessing Bucket Drive, coming up in August.

A blessing bucket is a 5 gallon bucket filled with supplies, handed out to disaster victims all over the world.

God's Pit Crew has depleted its supply after the earthquake in Nepal, flooding in Pocahontas Virginia and recently massive flooding in Kentucky.

Drives are scheduled in August in Marion, Wytheville, Galax, Hillsville, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville and South Boston.

In the Galax/Hillsville area, organizers will be setting up collection sites at the Galax Walmart and Dollar Tree and at the Hillsville Super Dollar parking lot on Friday, August  7th from 11 a.m. to 7p.m. and Saturday, August 8thth 10 a.m.to 6 p.m., and then again on Friday, August 14th 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and August 15th 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Volunteers on those days to man the collection sites.

The buckets will be assembled at the Hillsville Fire Department #2 at 315 Hanger Dr. Hillsville, on Thursday, August 13th and August 21st beginning at 7 p.m. and volunteers are needed then as well.

In Marion, organizers will be set up at Dr. Mary Curtis' Office at 1583 N. Main St. and Walmart at 1193 N. Main St. on August 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Volunteers will assemble buckets in Marion on Friday, August 21st between 3-8 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church at 1258 N. Main St.

  • cans of ready to eat food with pop-top  ex: Raviolli, Treet
  • (Please be sure these have a long expiration dates)
  • Utensils/Napkin pack

Misc. Items

  • Flashlight with  extra Batteries
  • Paper Towels (Thin)
  • Small Container Disposable Cleaning Wipes (like Clorox or Lysol)
  • Alcohol
  • Peroxide
  • Bible
  • Note of encouragement
