Two small-town restaurants earn national attention

ROANOKE (WSLS10) - Two local restaurants are receiving national attention for their unique location and outstanding food.

Recently recognized in the number six spot for Virginia's restaurants that "Don't look like much…but wow, they're good," Palisades restaurant in Eggleston, Virginia was named by onlyinyoustate.com. The site notes the restaurants unique location in an historic old general store in Giles County.

"You might not expect handcrafted foods prepared in a brick oven imported from Italy in the heart of Giles County. But after one taste of this incredibly unique menu, you won't be surprised by anything The Palisades serves up – and most importantly, you'll never be disappointed," the site says.

It also highlights the Palisades wine selection, incredible food and live music entertainment.

Coming in the number 13 spot is Texas Tavern in downtown Roanoke. Known as one of Roanoke's past times, the site notes the taverns 1930's style meals and prices – that haven't changed since opening.

"Texas Tavern has been serving up great meals at great prices since the 1930s. Not only is it a local favorite with $1.30 hamburgers and hot dogs, it even has it's own language for ordering. "A bowl" is their famous chili and "with" means you want onions," the site notes.
