(WSLS 10) - Danville-Pittsylvania County Habitat for Humanity got a boost in their construction efforts this week when students and faculty from Jefferson Forest High School joined in to help.

Working primarily at house #43, located at 410 Hughes Street in Danville, group members coated the foundation, shoveled gravel around the front porch, helped to install roof trusses, and began building the rear deck.

In addition to volunteering this week, Habitat for Humanity said each participant brought a $150 donation to help purchase materials needed for the home.

Housing for the group was provided by West Main Baptist Church. First Baptist Church provided lunches for the week.

Danville firefighters stopped by the construction site on Thursday for an educational opportunity. Trainees had the opportunity to see how a home is constructed in order to have a better understanding of how to fight house fires. Firefighters also helped to put the last truss in place.

The future home owner, Kimberly Brooks, worked side-by-side with the Jefferson Forest group.  As a Habitat partner, officials say Ms. Brooks is required to contribute 100 hours of construction work on her house. Habitat partners must make a $500 down payment on their homes and assume a 30-year mortgage with mortgage payments averaging $300 per month.
