Vinton homeowner chases intruder out of the house; calls 911

VINTON (WSLS 10) - A Bedford County man is facing multiple charges after police say he broke into a Vinton residence while the homeowners were sleeping.

The incident happened at 4:51 a.m. Monday, July 6 in the 400 block of Craig Avenue in Vinton.

Vinton police say the suspect, identified as Ryan Matthew Perry, 20, had forcibly broken into the home. The residents were asleep inside when Perry broke open the front door.

Perry fled into the street after the homeowner chased him outside and was taken into custody just outside of the home, police say.

During the course of the investigation, officers say Perry had gained access into the interior of two vehicles in the 300 block of Craig Avenue and had stolen a wallet from inside one of them. He had also attempted to enter another home in the 200 block of Craig Avenue but ran from this location before entering.

Perry is charged with felony breaking and entering, petit larceny, property damage, entering a vehicle with intent to commit larceny, underage possession of alcohol, and being intoxicated in public.
