One issue is rates. Currently the city sets the rates which start at $3.15.

The city attorney Daniel Callaghan said he looked into the issue after a taxi driver asked to increase cab fares.

Callaghan said he'll work with taxi companies and the city manager to possibly change the rates.

Callaghan says in Charlottesville companies don't have to follow a base rate but must post their rates instead.

"When Uber and these other ride share programs went into effect that was one big issue," says Callaghan. "What was in the county report today was fares and how to regulate fares and we provided information to council how other localities do in the commonwealth."

In addition to rates, cab drivers are also asking the city to look into another issue at the Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport.

Under new regulations, cap companies will have to pay more in liability fees for cars more than eight years old. Cars will also bid for spots in front of the airport.
