WASHINGTON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Arson investigations continue by the Virginia State Police (VSP) to try and find the person behind a series of fires that destroyed 18 vehicles and damaged an outbuilding at a Washington County school.

The fires happened between 4:30 a.m. June 4 and June 29 at a repair shop on Jeb Stuart Highway in Abingdon.

In one instance, the vehicle fire spread to a nearby brick storage shed on the property of an elementary school in Meadowview. Except for the fire at the school, the majority of the arson occurred at auto repair shops and used car dealerships in Washington County.

The vehicles were vacant at the time of the fire and no one was injured in any of the incidents. The fires were set between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.

VSP said investigators were still looking for the person responsible for the fires. It asks anyone with information or has seen suspicious activity at any of the locations to call (276) 228-3131, dial #77 on a cell phone or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
