ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke County Police Department is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
In 1990, the police department began its first tour of duty. The sheriff's office handled services before the police department took over.

"Cars had to be changed around, uniforms had to be changed around, policies had to be updated and created," Assistant Police Chief, Chuck Mason explained. "It was a very busy time."
And there are about five people still working at the department who have been there since the beginning.
"It feels like a flash in the pan," Commander David McMillan said. "It was pretty quick. I've been here for 29 years. I still wonder where the time went."
A celebration for the community took place Wednesday evening at Roanoke County's Public Safety Center.
