Michael Boyd and his fiance, Brittny Deskins, live down the street from the apartments. They said they saw flames coming from the parking lot and called 911 for help. Before rescue crews arrived, the couple said they knocked on the apartment doors to warn residents of the fire.

"I got over there and saw the fire extinguisher and broke it {glass casing}," said Boyd. "I went up and started to spray at the base of the car."

Witnesses said three vehicles were damaged after one of the cars caught on fire. Deskins said many of the residents at the apartment complex were inside their homes when the fire began to spread through the parking lot.

"Our main goal was to make sure everyone was awake," said Deskins. "Everyone knew there was a fire and everyone got out safely."

Boyd and Deskins said they don't consider themselves heroes for running to help others. They said they believe they just did what was the right thing to do.

No word on what caused the vehicles to catch on fire.
