(WSLS 10) - The Town of Vinton cuts the ribbon opening the newly improved Tinker Creek Canoe Launch. Improvements include new park spaces, canoe storage rack, a safety kiosk and a stabilized slope along the canoe ramp. The ribbon cutting takes place this morning at nine.

Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam will be at Radford University today speaking at the American Legion Boys State of Virginia. Outstanding rising seniors from high schools across the state have been chosen to take part in the annual education program. The goal is to teach the students about state and local government.

Child Health Investment Partnership dedicates its new building today in downtown Roanoke. The new building houses CHIP's new mental health initiative. Acquisition of the property was possible with help from the James Meador Foundation.

About 50 teens in the Miss Virginia Outstanding Teen Program will volunteer at the Roanoke Rescue Mission today. The teens, between the ages of 13 and 18, will make beds and sort through donations. The Outstanding Teen program is the little sister to the Miss America Pageant. This is the seventh year the contestants have volunteered at the rescue mission.

Danville Police Chief Philip Broadfoot presents "Saved By the Belt Awards". The awards are given to motorists who were wearing their seat belts when crashes occurred in the city. Officers will also be recognized for their efforts to promote traffic safety. The recipients will be announced this morning at 10.
