ROANOKE, VA (WSLS 10) - WSLS 10 is teaming up with Feeding America Southwest Virginia (FASWVA) and Walmart to help provide food for the hungry in the inaugural 10 Cares Super Food Drive.

We will collect nonperishable food donations at several Walmart locations Thursday, January 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Walmart locations are as follows:

•Wards Road in Lynchburg

•Danville's 1 location (listed as 515 Mount Cross Rd on Walmart.com)

•Christiansburg 1 location (listed as 2400 N Franklin St onWalmart.com)

The food collected in each community will help the needy in that area.

FASWVA reports its most needed food items are peanut butter, canned meats (such as tuna or chicken), canned meals (like beef stew or ravioli), canned fruit, 100% juice, canned soups, canned vegetables, boxed pasta and sauce, hot or cold cereals, dry beans or dry rice.

FASWVA has served the 26 counties and associated municipalities in Southwest Virginia for more than three decades. It distributes more than 20 million pounds of food annually to nearly 400 partner agency soup kitchens, rescue missions and food pantries.

"12.8% of our population in our 26 counties is food insecure and many of those are children. So the need is still there," said Marketing & Communications Coordinator Walker Nelms.
