(WSLS 10) - The first ever Virginia Cheese Festival takes place in Blacksburg on Saturday. Enjoy a day of cheese tastings, wine and beer pairings, workshops and more. There's also a 5K Rat Race. The race starts at 9 a.m. with the festival running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Moss Arts Center on the Virginia Tech Campus.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation offers an excursion this weekend on the newly restored Class J 611 steam locomotive. It will leave Saturday morning from Lynchburg, traveling to Petersburg. A few standard coach seats remain available.

The Franklin County Historical Society holds Court Days in Rocky Mount on Saturday. The event celebrates the heritage and culture of the community through the telling of official court proceedings from the late 1700s through the today as well as traditions of Franklin County. The fun runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Several communities in southwest Virginia will hold Juneteenth Celebrations. It commemorates the 5th anniversary of the end of slavery in the U.S. while also letting the community interact with local police.  Celebrations takes place in Christiansburg at Rosa Peters Playground and in Roanoke at Washington Park.  

The Blue Ridge Parkway celebrates National Get Outdoors Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. head to the Visitors Center at milepost 384 for ranger led programs and activities about the national resources of the parkway.
