CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - The Blue Demon baseball team hasn't been in the playoff picture since 1995, until now. With a conference championship and a win in the Region 3A West quarterfinal Monday, they're one step closer to their goal.

"Our early work, we actually called it the 'Road to Liberty.' Where they get their work in, whether it's infield work or extra hitting, or pitchers getting their running in," said Christiansburg head coach Dale Nelson.

Leading the team down that "Road to Liberty" are the seniors, who have played together since they were kids.

"We've had a travel team since we were 9 years old and so having this experience is awesome for all of us, and doing it together means the world," explained Christian Wallace, a senior who pitched in Monday nights win.

For 20 years the playoffs have been uncharted territory, but this years team are the trailblazers in their quest to get back to the state tournament. The Blue Demons were just enjoying the ride.

"It's crazy, I never thought if you would have told us at the beginning of the season we'd be here, but now we are and it's a dream come true. We're just living it up and having fun as we go," senior Logan Forster said.

Unfortunately for the Blue Demons, the road to Liberty didn't get past Tunstall High school, where they fell to Monticello 2-0 in the region semifinal.
