ROANOKE, VA (WSLS) - Former Roanoke County Board of Supervisors member Mike Wray will seek the Cave Spring district seat on the Roanoke County School Board.
Wray, who was a member of the Board of Supervisors from 2003 - 2007, announced that he will retire from Norfolk Southern and devote his full attention to the position. Wray was among those Norfolk Southern employees being transferred because of the company's recent decision to consolidate it's operations in Atlanta and Norfolk.

"I was born and raised in Roanoke County and graduated from Cave Spring High School," said Wray. "My children also graduated from Cave Spring High School and my wife is currently teaching at Cave Spring Elementary School."
Wray pledged to support a commitment to initiatives that, "enhance learning through innovative technologies."
Citing a decline in the student population by 1,000 students since 2008, Wray is calling for the school board and county administration to work together to attract additional businesses to the area, in order to keep the student population and educational funding strong.
Wray currently serves as rector on the Radford University Board of Visitors, and has served as a trustee for the Roanoke Higher Education Center and as treasurer of the Center's executive board.
