      (Roanoke/WSLS)- It can be compared to the Heisman Trophy award--at a local high school level.

    The B'nai B'rith Athletic and Achievement awards represent the best of the best student-athletes of SW Virginia.   In Roanoke, there was another room full of superstar academic and athletic talent--for the 65th edition.   Virginia Tech wrestling coach Kevin Dresser was the keynote speaker, bringing his unique style of intensity and success to the room.

    The overall female is the Alayna Francis of Cave Spring. The star softball player and competitive cheerleader is headed to Virginia Tech.

     It's been a struggle to balance community service, athletics and academics but you know its really shapes you into the person you want to be in life. And I think everything I've done, community service especially,  has shaped me into who I want to be, and it helps me be the person I want to be in the future,"explains Francis.         

     The overall male winner is football, basketball and track star Warren Craft of William Fleming. The wide receiver will be catching passes for Mike London next season at UVA.

      "I've just always been taught to never give up. Just always go hard in whatever you do. Honestly keep God first, and everything will just turn out how you want it to. Keep God first, continue to work hard and keep your dedication," says Craft.

       The B'nai B'rith takes into account athletics, academics and community service.  Francis was the winner of the Artie Levin Personal Life award as well.
