ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop at Smith Mountain Lake expects to hit the $2 million mark at its annex sale Thursday, May 14, 2015.
Organizers said the milestone will put fundraising totals for the two shops in Roanoke and Moneta at $8 million for cancer research and programs.
The semi-annual Annex Sale will featured new High Point Furniture Market donations and takes place at the Moneta shop’s temporary annex at 12925 Booker T. Washington Highway, Hardy, VA, suite 104. The sale runs for two consecutive weekends Thursday through Saturday May 14-16 and May 21-23.
The Discovery Shops first opened in Roanoke on Franklin Road in 1995 and in Moneta in 2004 on Scruggs Road. The group said over 200 volunteers are involved with the management and operation of the shops.
The shops specializes in selling upscale donated items to the public, with a focus on furniture and household goods in Moneta and upscale men’s and women’s apparel in the Roanoke shop. Among donations from private individuals and estates and numerous commercial supporters, hundreds of vendors at the High Point International Furniture Market contribute large amounts of home décor items twice a year.
