Cindy Rosenbaum has taught fourth graders at Kipps since 2007. She was named 2016 teacher of the year and will represent all teachers in the county in the state competition. Rosenbaum is one of 20 teachers nominated in Montgomery County.

She was nearly speechless after hearing the announcement. She received flowers and balloons from her principal and the superintendent.

"We have so many talented staff in here in Montgomery County and particularly here at Kipps," Rosenbaum said. "I really represent a very large group of people who put in long hours, love, love, love their kids and call them their kids, every day."

Kipps principal Chris Widrig attributes Rosenbaum's success to engaging her students and fostering a caring and nurturing environment for students and staff.

"Cindy instills in her students a passion for learning that engages students and inspires a deep understanding of all content areas," he said. "She expresses a profound kindheartedness and seeks ways to foster a caring and nurturing environment for staff and students."

The state teacher of the year will be announced in the fall.
