CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - John Martin is on a mission. He unloaded boxes of papers for his son at the WSLS 10 Kodiak Shredding Shred-A-Thon Monday.

"We're thrilled to death. He's very happy," Martin said of his son.

Martin's son is an accountant who isn't taking any chances with his documents.

"He had 30 boxes of paper. He can't throw it away, we have to have it shredded. We have to witness it being shredded."

Martin waits and watches as the boxes are dumped into a bin and go through the Kodiak shredder. It was one of three trucks parked at G&H Appliance in Christiansburg for the second of four events planned for April and May.

By noon, Monday, the Christiansburg located nearly doubled the total pounds of paperwork brought in at a previous shred event last year.

The drop off is convenient not only for dozens of drivers who pass through, but for businesses looking to clear the clutter.

"We had a lot of paper that needed to go into the computer," explained Ewing Building & Remodeling employee Samantha Raven. "So it's been piling up over the past couple of months and it was time to get it shredded," she said.

She brought containers of paperwork no longer needed after scanning and entering the invoices online.

What is expected to be the biggest business drop off today, came loaded in a U-Haul.

"We have a storage warehouse and we had to dig way back in the back to get these so it's a job but once every 10 years isn't too bad," said Stacy Moran whose mother owns two stores.

It's 10 years worth of convenience store tax documents he brought in on a U-Haul from Willis.
