BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - The community is reacting after a lieutenant with the Bedford police department resigned yesterday following allegations of misconduct.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce is investigating Brian McAlexander.

McAlexander was a patrol lieutenant with several responsibilities in the department.

It was new job Bedford Police Chief Todd Foreman promoted him to at the end of last year.

"The patrol lieutenant supervises all patrol officers they do the scheduling for that, they're involved in some grants, got various duties special events," says Foreman.

However some of McAlexander's work is on hold after he resigned Monday.

It was the same day Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce announced it is investigating McAlexander.

In the meantime, Chief Foreman says he and the captain are taking on some of mcalexander's responsibilities.

"It's a little bit more work for everybody cause we're short one person but we are In the position to make some conditional offers," says Foreman.

McAlexander has not been arrested or charged. Chief Foreman says it's why he won't comment about the investigation but says the department is working with ICAC.

Meanwhile people in the community shared their concerns resident Lettie Collins says she's not surprised but says she's disappointed If the allegations prove to be true.

"I think it's sad when someone in authority and is looked up by children is accused of something like that," says Collins. "My hope is that they'll prove it wrong."
