One day in early 2014, Sgt. Erik Mollin answered a call that almost changed his life forever.

Franklin County Sgt. Mollin came across a suspect running from a violent home invasion last January.

The violence continued when the suspect shot at Sgt. Mollin's face, shattering his teeth, but Sgt. Mollin kept going and helped capture him.

"Every law enforcement officer you talk to, not just myself, we put personal sacrifices out there every day, this is not something I have a monopoly on. I think this is something every law enforcement officer does and that night, not only myself, but the other officers, none of them quit even after they knew I was injured," Sgt. Mollin explained.

Mollin will be honored with the Red Cross Law Enforcement Hero award coming up on March 24 at The Hotel Roanoke.
