GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) - Kenneth Stancil III, the man accused of shooting and killing a Wayne Community College employee Monday morning, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning in Daytona Beach, Fla., Goldsboro Police said.

Stancil was arrested around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday after he was found sleeping on a beach in Daytona City. Stancil was approached by Volusia County Beach Patrol officers for violating the city's no sleeping on the beach ordinance.

Stancil is accused of shooting and killing Wayne Community College employee Ron Lane on Monday. A relative of Lane's said that Lane had to fire Stancil, but police have not said if that's why Lane was killed.

Stancil's mother, Debbie Stancil, said Lane "made inappropriate sexual advances toward him," which upset her son.

Goldsboro Police said Stancil had a knife with him when he was arrested Tuesday morning.

Stancil is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.

The Goldsboro Police Department and the Wayne County District Attorney's Office are working with the Volusia County Florida Prosecutor's Office in order to extradite Stancil back to Wayne County.
