GALAX (WSLS 10) – Galax City Schools is one of eight divisions across Virginia that will get help feeding hungry children next school year.
Governor Terry McAuliffe announced the grant Monday.
The money, which comes from the Virginia Hunger-Free Kids Act Demonstration Project, will provide a third meal for qualified students, as well as food to take home on the weekends.
Currently, about 66 percent of Galax students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
The grant goes into effect during the 2015-2016 school year, and carries over into the summer months as well.
