According to VDOT officials, the primary purpose of the project is to enhance safety along Rt. 220 by providing an upgraded two-lane road, improving vertical and horizontal alignment, widening shoulders, realigning intersections, adding turn lanes and creating additional passing zones.

This proposed project would reconstruct Route 220 as a two-lane road and is intended to reduce the severity and number of crashes.

Comments about the project may be submitted at the meeting or until March 22, 2015, by mail to Mr. Craig Moore, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153.
