Leonard Nimoy, Mr. Spock, dies at 83

BEL AIR, Calif. (MEDIA GENERAL) – Leonard Nimoy, who played Dr. Spock in "Star Trek," has died.

Nimoy died at his home Friday morning in Bel Air, California. He had been battling chronic pulmonary disease.

Nimoy started playing Dr. Spock in 1966. He worked on the small screen, in big blockbuster movies and on the stage over the course of his long career. He's described as a director, actor, poet, photographer, singer and songwriter.

Nimoy was 83.
